Nyungwe National Park

In the misty highlands of southeastern Rwanda, there is a rainforest where all forms of nature coexist. Visit Nyungwe National Park to witness butterflies fluttering over colourful wildflowers and to hear the chimpanzees’ shouts reverberating across the forest.

This old rainforest, which spans more than 1,019 square kilometres, is an absolute treasure house of flora and fauna, with 345 species of birds, 85 species of animals, and an astounding array of plants.

What makes Nyungwe special is more than its fauna. Much of Rwanda gets its potable water from this river, which also supplies water to the Nile and the Congo, two of the largest rivers in the world.

Anyone looking for peace of mind, adventure, or a deeper connection to nature will find what they’re seeking in its woods. This park is a spectacular example of the power of human ingenuity when combined with the natural world; it has been revitalized through conservation initiatives and community involvement.

The Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Nyungwe National Park is the dry season, from June to September, when trails are easier to navigate for activities like chimpanzee trekking, hiking, and canopy walks.

Birdwatchers, however, may prefer the wet season, from October to May, as it brings vibrant bird activity, making it perfect for spotting the park’s diverse bird species amidst the lush greenery.
