Murchison Falls National Park

Standing at the edge of the roaring Murchison Falls, you can feel the ground tremble under your feet. This incredible park, stretching over 3,840 square kilometres, is Uganda’s largest and oldest protected area.

The Victoria Nile cuts through its heart, creating the world’s most powerful waterfall, where water crashes through a narrow 7-meter gorge and plunges 43 meters into a misty pool below.

Beyond the falls, Murchison is a haven for wildlife, boasting 73 mammal species like elephants, lions, and Rothschild giraffes, alongside 451 bird species, including the iconic shoebill stork.

Established in 1927, the park offers game drives, boat safaris, chimpanzee tracking, and cultural tours. From golden savannahs to lush riverine forests, every corner of Murchison Falls National Park tells a story of nature’s power and beauty, making it an unmissable stop on any Uganda safari.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit Murchison Falls is during the dry season, from December to February. Wildlife gathers near water sources, making them easier to spot during game drives or boat cruises.

The wet season, from June to November, transforms the park into a lush green paradise with vibrant birdlife. While occasional rains can make tracking animals more challenging, the scenery is at its most beautiful.
