Aberdare National Park

For those looking for a safari experience that is unlike any other, Aberdare National Park, located in the Central Highlands of Kenya is your go-to place. The park is well-known for its lush rainforests, moorlands, deep ravines, and stunning waterfalls such as Karuru and Gura Falls.

It encompasses a total area of 767 square kilometres inside its boundaries. Several endangered species of animals, including golden cats, bongo antelopes, black rhinos, leopards, elephants, and hyenas, call this region their home.

In addition, the park has a long and illustrious history, as it has caverns used by Mau Mau freedom fighters during colonial rule in Kenya. The Ark and Treetops are two examples of elevated tree lodges that allow guests to observe animals congregating at waterholes and salt licks, generating unique and fascinating experiences.

Aberdare National Park’s historic significance, breathtaking scenery, and many activities make it a hidden jewel in Kenya’s safari circuit.

The Best Time to Visit

The best time to explore Aberdare National Park is during the drier months of June to September and December to February. These months are perfect for hiking, visiting waterfalls, and spotting wildlife in their natural habitats. The cooler climate makes outdoor activities more enjoyable.

During the rainy months of April, May, and October, some roads may become muddy and difficult to traverse, but wildlife viewing at tree lodges remains excellent year-round. Animals regularly visit waterholes near the lodges, offering a unique safari experience even during wetter periods.
